the PDP Media Vanguard and Immediate Past Supervisor for Women Affairs PHALGA Hon. Mrs. Kate Owen Obusoh Felicitates
and celebrates all women within the State in the International Women’s day Celebration.
International women’s day
is a global celebration of the social, cultural, economic and political
achievements of women. It is celebrated annually on Mach 8. The past year saw
unprecedented global movement for women’s right, Equality and Justice.
She echoed the fact that,
this year International Women Day Theme is #TimeIsNow: Rural and Urban activists transforming women’s lives. And
together with the Rivers State women Theme title #LeaveNoWomanBehind remains very paramount.
She admonishes Rivers
State Women to take advantage of this year theme and Gov. Nyesom Wike gender
friendly administration, which have help to championed Women struggle to a
greater extent within the States. These areas includes; greater women inclusion
in politics, equal pay of women with their male counterparts, among others.
She believed that the “Time
Is Now” for Women within the state to Do-away with whatsoever traditional
beliefs, norms and values which tends to relegates women to the confabs of the home/kitchen
and therefore, to engage effectively in public life. For any Nation to attain development,
then the potentials of her Women must be exploited to the fullest, as Women
remains the live-wire
to every develop State, this she said.
She also used the
opportunity to idolized notable women from all walks of life that have brought
glory to the State, while also advising women to have nothing to do with crimes
and other social vices that could bring shame to their household and the State as
a whole.
