The national leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has lambasted Governor Yahaya Bello’s factional state executive members over the purported expulsion of the Alhaji Haddy Ametuo-led state executive committee.
Reacting to the purported expulsion on Saturday, APC in a statement made available to KOGIWATCH by its National Publicly Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, declared that the sack of the Ametuo-led executive committee was unconstitutional and null and void.
It stated that “neither state nor zonal executives, constituted in whatever name or form can expel anyone from the party. Only convention can do so.”
“We restate that the State Working Committee of APC in Kogi State led by the Chairman, Alhaji Haddy Ametuo remains the only recognized executive committee of the party in the State.
“Any disciplinary action being contemplated must be referred to the Party’s National Working Committee (NWC). That is the position of the constitution.
“Again, we enjoin all party members at all levels to desist from taking unilateral actions that are likely to further jeopardize the on-going peace process,” the statement stressed.
Recall that the faction loyal to the state Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello on Friday announced expulsion of the Haddy Ametuo-led state executive council.
Addressing newsmen in Lokoja, the newly-appointed factional Acting Chairman, Alhaji Ibrahim Ahovi said the expulsion was due to what it termed as the failure of the Haddy Ametuo-led executive committee to appeal their removal within 14 days.
Ahovi said that the expulsion was with immediate effect.
