“cleanliness they say, is next to godliness” therefore, in the verge of achieving a clean and serene environment, involves everybody responsibility and should not be left in the wings of the government and her agencies (RIWAMA) alone.
RIWAMA, as a waste management agency is saddle with the primary responsibility to manage accumulated waste, in engineered dump sites that are environmentally safe and in line with best global practices. But, the bitter truth is, the general public also has to stand up with her own daily and continuous responsibility of gathering and controlling generated wastes from markets, companies, bedrooms, kitchens, compounds, shops, workshops, schools etc, efficiently and effectively to designated RIWAMA municipal waste collection points.
If you don’t drop your wastes at the specified designated RIWAMA points, you are automatically making the city dirty and this will go a long way in making the effort of the agency unrealistic.
We drop the dirt and RIWAMA collects the dirt. But where and how we drop the dirt make it easy or difficult for them to achieve their primary responsibility as highlighted above.
We as individuals, companies, schools, market places, churches etc have all failed in the environmental sanitation exercise culture, which ought to be the responsibility of everybody. Most individuals and organizations don’t have refuse and garbage bins anymore. Thus, dirt are use in decorating the environment and thereby making the entire city an eyesore.
There is always room for improvement and to maintain our present status as the cleanest State in Nigeria, via the synergy, contributions and dedications of our CTCs at the local government levels inclusively, most especially, the 4 LGA that makes up the municipality. We should always remember that Garden City is our own and we must make sure to make it clean.
