The Braitwait Memorial Specialist Hospital's (BMSH) Doctors quaters has been renamed after the late Dr Demi Denni-Fiberesima.The project which was flagged off by Vice President, Yemi Osibanjo on the 13th of February 2017 was commisioned by former Governor of Rivers State, His Excellency Dr Peter Odili on the 5th of June 2018.
As great as the structures are, the most profound part of the commisioning was the recognition and remembrance given to one of Rivers State's finest, the late Dr Demi Denni-Fiberesima who the quaters was named after. It is such recognitions that give actors presently on stage a taste for value beyond the present and causes one to invest in prosperity.
Dr. Dinma Deni-Fiberesima of blessed memory was a seasoned Ophthalmologist and one of the greatest patriots Rivers State has produced. The founder of the popular Odadiki Eye Clinic, his clinic was well know for giving free tests, glasses and surgery to as many indigent Rivers people as walked through its doors.
As Commisioner for Health he found the popular flying doctors scheme which was a collaborative health effort between the State Government, Oil majors and the Air force to fly medical personnel into difficult and inaccessible areas.
He served as Commisioner under Military administrators, Lt Colonel Anthony Ukpo and Group Captain Ernest Adeleye. As commisioner, he did what was then unfathomable by walking away from the Ernest Adeleye led cabinet owning to his uncompromising stance on corruption.
A devout Christian who was then INC Vice President Dr Fibresima refused financial remuneration as Commisioner but donated his salary to charity. He also played a key role in the struggle for the creation of Bayelsa State. It is with this rich history in mind Rivers people have been giving accolades to Governor Wike for taking steps to imortalise this exceptional Rivers man.
In his address at the commissioning ceremony, Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike informed that his administration built two of the new structures and re-modelled the third building to give the doctors a befitting accomodation. Governor Wike announced that his administration remains committed to improving the healthcare sector, noting that the Mother and Child Hospital, Zonal Hospitals, General Hospitals and the College of Medical Sciences will come on stream for the good of the people.
The BMSH Doctor's quaters is one of the 32 projects slated for commisioning to mark the 3rd anniversary of Governor Wike in office as Governor.
